6th Year History to Derry

Our 6th Year History class had a fantastic and very informative tour of Derry today. Even the rain couldn't take from the impressive walking tour of the Bogside and visits to the Museum of Free Derry and the Siege Museum.

History for the Leaving Cert brought to life, super day out.

Great first outing for Camogie team.

Well done to the Coláiste Chiaráin 1st and 2nd year camogie team who had their first outing of the year today in a Meath /North Kildare blitz in Meath GAA Centre of Excellence in Dunganny, Co. Meath. The girls were victorious in their first two games against two Dunboyne teams but fell short to Boyne Community College, Trim in their final game.

Culture Day 2017

Link to some photos from todays culture experience.

On Friday the 26th of May, fifth year students and Ms.Cotter organised a culture day for the first years. Fifth year students from a range of different countries came together to present the 1st years with a talk where people spoke about their cultures .The first years were then brought to the hall and were able to go around and sample foods from these cultures.

Teachers took part also bringing in food from South Africa ( Ms.Penny),  France(Ms.Bonbon) and Korea(Mr.English). Students and some teachers also wore the traditional clothes or jewellery of their country. All together there was 16 different stands with a variety of foods for the first years to eat from countries like Armenia, India, Slovakia, Russia and Nigeria.

The first years got a chance to experience and learn about the many different cultures within our school. We hope to do this again next year and to celebrate the multiple cultures within our school. With a big thanks to all teacher and students involved in organising and setting up this event.

1st Year Boys' football final

The first years boys were defeated 6-2 in the Leinster Shield final by Colaiste Choilm Swords yesterday.

In scorching conditions that reminded this scribe of Ireland at the '94 World Cup in USA, the lads played out a very exciting game. Although the better team won on the day, the scoreline flattered our opponents somewhat. In fact we took the lead and the game was very even until late on when Colaiste Choilm pulled away with some clinical finishing as we threw players forward looking to get back into the contest.

The lads can be extremely proud of their achievements this year and by the way they represented the school. A great team spirit cultivated this season will hopefully reap further rewards in the campaigns ahead.

Healthy Living Promotion

The Healthy Living Committee are proud to receive a Banner from the Health Promoting Schools Programme run by the HSE in recognition for all their hard work in promoting a healthy lifestyle in Colaiste Chiarain. Students, parents and teachers were involved in introducing initiatives based on mental and physical health in the school which also included Smile Week and Sport's Day.

These initiatives have been in place for the past two years and we hope to receive a flag from the HSE in September to declare that we are a Health Promoting School.

Many thanks to all who have helped out over the years.

Graduation evening 2017

Once again our Graduating class of 2017 did us proud this evening as they bid a fond farewell to the school in the company of their parents and teachers. It was great to see so many happy smiles and a few tears scattered in there too, but life moves on as they make way for another year group in Colaiste Chiarain.

Photos from the night can be viewed from this link or http://bit.ly/2r1khsj

We would welcome some more photos to add to the collection so if anyone would like to share some memories from the night then we would love to hear from you at info@colaistechiarain.com and we will upload them for all to enjoy.
