We would like to wish all our school community and their families a very happy and peaceful Christmas. Our beautiful carol service in the church yesterday was made extra special by the stunning performance of ‘O Holy Night’ by 6th Year student, Lucy Creighton. Thank you Lucy! We look forward to seeing all our students on Jan 6th 2020.
Christmas Doors
We ran a competition for the TY's. They were put into groups of 4 and each group had up to 3 doors to decorate in a Christmas theme. They decorated the doors using their talents, with imagination, presentation and creativity. The groups did a very good job with the doors working together and it gave a very Christmas feeling around the school. The students who got 1st place are Shane, Nicole, Sophie and Caitlyn D, joint 2nd was Charlie, Ciaran, Conor Kileen, Jamie and group 2 Luke Cr, Nathan FK, Caitlin OB, Kasey, Sam and 3rd place was Megan, Keeley and Margaret.
1st Year Merit and Attendance Awards
It is the first Christmas of many in Coláiste Chiaráin for our first year students. To celebrate this yesterday we awarded merits to students in recognition of attendance, commitment, dedication and positive approach to the spirit of Coláiste Chiaráin
Christmas Jumpers for Saint Vincent de Paul
Each year 6th students organise a Christmas Jumper Day as a fundraiser for our local branch of SVP. All funds raised go directly back into our local community. Well done to the senior prefects for organising the event. Students donated money for wearing their jumpers and staff held a raffle in the staffroom. The amount raised this year was €1,205 which was presented to Yvonne Mc Givern and John McCormack from SVP
An Evening of Christmas Carols
Tree Planting
At the end of November, 1st and 2nd year Wood Technology students planted 10 native Irish sapling trees. We felt it was important as woodworkers to teach the younger generation the values of tree planting. Over 2 days: birch, beech and alder trees were planted by the students on the school grounds for all to enjoy now and for future generations. It is the ambition of the Wood Technology department to continue this activity every year. We here at Colaiste Chiarain would like to thank SAP Landscapes for their generous donation of the trees and help with this activity.
Stand Up Week 2019
This week we took part in Stand Up! Week, the aim of which is to tackle homophobic and transphobic bullying by increasing awareness, friendship and support for LGBT students by other students.
Why do we need Stand Up! Week
Many lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) young people develop their sexual and gender identities within supportive families and communities and are leading happy lives. However, many other LGBT young people experience serious levels of homophobia, transphobia and exclusion in their schools, youth clubs and local areas.
Careers Fair
Coláiste Chiaráin held yet another very successful Careers Fair on Monday 11th November. The fair was organised by the Parents Council who run the fair every two years. Our 3rd/TY/5th and 6th year students were all invited to attend and the event was very well supported.
Universities, ITs, apprenticeships and colleges of further education were represented in large numbers. Students also had the chance to speak to people from all walks of life from a large variety of careers. It was a great chance to meet people and hear directly what their career entailed, how they got into that career and what the prospects were for the future.
Sincerest thanks to the Parents Council for all their hard work in organising this event and to all those who took time out of their busy schedules to support our evening.
First years march on in the cup.
Luke Clarke coolly slotted home CC's last peno to seal a dramatic win over Lucan CC this afternoon. The lads nearly snatched a famous defeat from the jaws of victory after surrendering a 3-1 lead to a very strong Lucan side. CC's victory was due in no small part to the heroics of goalkeeper Steve Adeji who made a string of breathtaking saves throughout the game before saving and then scoring a penalty in the shootout! Well done lads!
Mallow Moments.
In the last couple of weeks we have begun a new initiative in Coláiste Chiaráin. We wanted to reward our First Year Students for exceptional behaviour. We sent an email to teachers who could nominate students for their friendliness, their commitment, their participation in school life and their kindness. On Thursday October 24th 21 of our First Year students celebrated their achievements with Hot Chocolate and marshmallows.
Supporting St. Vincent de Paul
As promised, money was donated today to the local Leixlip branch of St Vincent de Paul by the Transition Year students after the musical Oliver. Mary Angel Sadoveanu and Alina Rosca represent the TY students.
As well as the generous donation of 200 euro from TY 3a1 had a bake sale and donated 140 euro to the same charity. Elizabeth Kovalchuk, Mary Shokeye and Sharon Fotso are pictured with Ms.McGivern from SVP.
Thank you to all the students and family members for their support.

Scary Tales
1st year students gathered on Thursday to read their ghoulish tales as part of our annual Halloween story competition. The standard was extremely high again this year and certainly ‘lifted our spirits’!
Oliver 2019
The annual, TY musical took place this week with three performances of ‘Oliver’ in the St.Mary’s GAA hall. Congratulations to all concerned on a stunning production. The wonderful singing, acting, direction and musicianship led to a high energy show with suberb individual and group performances.
Well done and thank you to staff and students alike.
An Ghaelbhratach
Coláiste Chiaráin’s Gaelbhratach committee was awarded a Gaelbhratach on Tuesday last in a ceremony in Leopardstown. The flag is awarded by Gael Linn to schools who “create and encourage a culture of speaking Irish informally within the school community and beyond”.
During academic year 2018/2019, the committee, made up of a group of first and second year students, ran a number of events to promote the use of Irish in the school community. In December, the first years took part in a Ceolchoirm Nollag. There was a whole-school siúlóid in January during Smile Week and just before Easter, the Lá Spóirt was also used as an opportunity for staff and students to use their cúpla focal.
Throughout the course of the programme, the committee were assisted by Edel Ní Bhraonáin of Gael Linn, as well as their múinteoirí Gaeilge.
We congratulate the Coiste Gaelbhratach on all their hard work and look forward to their continued efforts to encourage the use of the Irish language within Coláiste Chiaráin and beyond.
