All-Ireland Basketball Champions
The Second Yr Boys Basketball Team were crowned All-Ireland Champions, (division C), on Thursday May 9th when they convincingly beat the team from St. Patricks College, Cavan, in the University of Limerick Arena.
The road to All-Ireland success began in January when the team competed in their regional pool games and qualified for the Dublin final in March, which they duly won.
This regional success qualified Coláiste Chiaráin for a place in the next stage of the competition, the Inter-Regional Play-offs, held in April in Abbeyleix which they had to win to advance to the last four. There, they competed in a four team blitz emerging as winners and two steps away from the coveted All-Ireland trophy.
Last Thursday, in UL arena the boys again showed their skill and determination on court, beating St Geralds, Castlebar, in their semi-final which set up their final game against the Cavan team.
Expertly coached by past pupil, Erin Bracken assisted by Yvonne Bracken, the team played a total of 12 games and had countless training sessions since last November in their bid for the coveted title, all the more sweet as they narrowly lost out on the title last year.

Congratulations also to the First Yr. Boys Team who were bronze medal winners at the All-Ireland semi-finals in Limerick.
Both teams will be promoted to division B in next years competition.
