Lunchtime Debate

A most enjoyable lunchtime was had by a packed library of students and teachers today (Tuesday the 21st March) when two of our senior debating teams argued the motion 'Ireland should reinstate the Death Penalty'. The turnout was tremendous as were the performances of each and every speaker. A lot of work went into preparing, writing and practicing the speeches but it certainly paid off. Ultimately the three esteemed adjudicators, Ms.Catherine Cotter, Ms Ann Keating and Mr Eoin English decided that the Proposition were the more convincing team and the motion was carried, meaning that the house believes that the Death Penalty should be reinstated in Ireland. I wonder what Enda Kenny would think of that?

Congratulations to the winning team who were Owen Hoelzle (captain), Jack O'Donohoe, David Wall, Erica Blaney and Ellen Coburn. Commiserations to the Opposition who ensured it was, according to the adjudicators, an extremely close debate. The team were Saoirse Flattery (captain), Nathan Carney, Tadhg Dempsey, Mulky Sharif and Mel Vincent Dela Cruz. Saoirse won Overall Best Speaker for her amazing delivery and wonderful use of Refutation and Rebuttal.

Well done and many thanks to all involved.
