Debating and Public Speaking

Debating and Public Speaking are regular activities and actively encouraged in Colaiste Chiarain. The school has a long history of competing in competitions like the prestigious Soroptomist Public Speaking competition, the Gael Linn Irish debates and the fantastic Concern Debates. Students have the opportunity each year to take part in competitions at both Junior and Senior cycle, in English and in Irish.

Students are trained in all aspects of debating and public speaking, such as time-keeping, presentation, research skills, the general etiquette associated with arguing points in a debate and working as a team.

The students also have a chance to mentor younger teams, adjudicate, time-keep and chair internal competitions; giving them valuable leadership skills. Debating and Public Speaking opens so many doors for students on both an academic and social level and we look forward to welcoming new recruits every school year.
